The hand-loom technique used to weave the textile used in this bag is called “ikat”, a system of tye-ing and dyeing threads to create intricate patterns. These hand woven cloths are made by the Dayak Desa residing in Sintang, West Kalimantan. Most of the material used in coloring traditional “ikat” designs comes from the forest; from barks, roots, seeds and other forest produce. Making ikat textiles is complex and involves oiling thread, coloring, knotting and weaving processes, along with spiritual rituals. The trim and handle of this bag are made of all genuine leather.
